In March 2026 our daughter got married. I officiated, with our pastor alongside me — which meant I saw the whole day from both sides of it.
What stayed with me afterwards was the admin. The invitations cost far more than they should have. The RSVPs lived in a WhatsApp group and a spreadsheet that never quite agreed with each other. Dietary requirements sat in a column that changed every week. The seating chart was rebuilt more times than I want to admit. And every platform we looked at had been built somewhere else — wrong currency, wrong phone format, and no real way to reach guests where they actually talk.
My wife has been helping couples with their weddings for years, lending out décor and stepping in wherever she's needed, so between us we've watched a lot of these days come together. BloomWed came out of all of it.
It's the thing we wish we'd had: a wedding website that speaks ZAR, sends updates over WhatsApp instead of email, and charges one simple once-off price instead of a monthly subscription. And alongside it, a marketplace where South African photographers, venues, planners and florists get found by the couples planning weddings near them.
We're a small South African team, based in Johannesburg, and we answer our own messages. If you need help — while you're setting up, the week before, or on the day itself — there's a real person on the other end, usually on WhatsApp, usually within the hour.
